*1-7 February* Construction works week at the old station of Luméville (near Bure)

Do not hesitate to fill in the pre-registration form (not compulsory).

Why a worksite at “the Station”?

The Luméville train station is a strategic place in the struggle against the nuclear waste burial project in Bure (Cigéo).
It will be threatened with expropriation by Andra because it is on the route of the railway line that would bring construction equipment and radioactive waste (2 castor trains per week) if the project is carried out.
Improving the building will allow more people to come and fight on the place in good conditions. The station is currently poorly insulated and therefore difficult to heat. The living conditions on site in winter are harsh and the work will be mainly dedicated to improving the insulation of the building.

Planned construction works

We are organising a week of construction at Luméville station. Here are the major works on the programme:
* insulation of the roof (masonry, insulation, cladding),
* insulation of the stone walls of the kitchen (insulation and cladding),
* redoing the ceiling of the library to make it a usable space,
* insulation of the FLINT sleeping room
If we have the time and the motivation, we can also finish the bathroom, work on the electrical system, improve the insulation of the doors (and put new ones), do a new floor, etc.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The worksite will take place at the old station of Luméville (6 km from Bure, between the towns of Luméville en Ornois and Mandres en Barrois). More information on bureburebure.info to know how to come: https://bureburebure.info/come-to-live-in-bure-and-around/

There will be only one sleeping accommodation available in the Station. There is also the possibility to sleep at the Maison de résistance in Bure, 6km away, there will be a shuttle service. The sleeping room is heated and part of it is only fo FLINT people. There are blankets and mattresses on site but feel free to bring a sleeping bag.

Vegan meals will be cooked at the station at lunchtime and in the evening and there will be breakfast available on site. There will be a self-organization schedule for the kitchen.

There will be drinking water in water tanks, limited electricity (solar panels and generator) and internet access.

There is a pre-registration form. It is not compulsory but it allows us to anticipate how many people will come and also to know your needs / desires / requests / proposals. It’s here: https://framaforms.org/chantier-a-la-gare-1639127785

Winter at Luméville station

The week of construction works takes place in the middle of winter at the station, which is a poorly insulated building. Most of the work will take place indoors and wood stoves will be used. These stoves will allow for several hot spots in the house to keep warm.

However, it is expected to be quite cold in general, especially at night in the sleeping room (the sleeping room at the Maison de résistance is heated and well insulated). So bring warm clothes.

Inclusiveness

The work will be even more beautiful if we all feel legitimate and comfortable to tinker, ask questions, make mistakes, do anything, learn and tinker even better. So even if you don’t feel particularly competent in insulation, etc., don’t hesitate to come!
We want to take the time to share our skills and knowledge on tools and building sites, if there is the wish.

Provisional schedule

The workcamp will take place every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm in order to work with daylight.
There will be daily info-points at 2pm.

Tuesday 1 February
The first day will be dedicated to learning about the tools, preparation – discovery of the work sites and an important moment to appropriate the place. There will also be a discussion on inclusiveness in the worksite.

From 2 to 6 February
Construction days. We would also like people to come and propose what they like. Several discussions and workshops are also planned:
* Presentation of the struggle in Bure and the station
* Screening
* Game evening
* All proposals are welcome

Monday 7th February
The last day will be dedicated to clean the station, tidy up and document what has been done and what remains to be done.

It is possible to arrive before and stay after.

Poster to download here if you want to spread the word.
