\u201eInfinite September\u201c is approaching and the threats to \u201eLa Gare\u201c are becoming increasingly serious. While \u2018amicable discussions\u2019 continue and the ANDRA mafia advances in its takeover of land and minds in Meuse and Haute-Marne, not everyone has given up in the face of the nuclear lobby. There is still time to oppose the nuclear waste dump planned around Bure, which risks condemning the region for the long term. We are more determined than ever to defend this territory and the old Lum\u00e9ville railway station \u201eLa Gare\u201c. The upcoming weeks will see a massive mobilisation, including a \u2018demonstration of the future\u2019 on 20 of September. We intend to mobilise all means to defend Bure and its surroundings, also including the weapon auf independant media.<\/p>\n
It is through its massive propaganda campaign at all levels and with the barely concealed support of the regional newspapers of the monopolistic EBRA group that the capitalist industry is establishing itself day after day, with the aim of making ever more profit from the destruction of life. And it is through various means of counter-information that social movements have been defending themselves for decades in order to:<\/p>\n
– create narratives from the perspective of those who are fighting<\/p>\n
– counter the brainwashing and fascist propaganda of the mass media<\/p>\n
– seek democratic, self-managed and diverse ways for free expression<\/p>\n
– write our own history of anti-capitalist struggles and much more<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, a specific space for a media centre has been built in the south of the Meuse region. Depending on the progress and enthusiasm generated by this space in the coming weeks, it will be possible to meet there from 15th of September to:<\/p>\n
– hold writing workshops and learn the basics of media work<\/p>\n
– create fanzines or a newspaper against expropriations<\/p>\n
– imagine communication campaigns against CIGEO<\/p>\n
– make podcasts and activist radio programmes<\/p>\n
– discuss Chomsky’s writings<\/p>\n
– present media projects from here and elsewhere<\/p>\n
– advance our communication skills<\/p>\n
The idea is to provide a creative workspace open to all those who are fighting for change in the area. Opening hours will be posted once the final work on the infrastructure has been completed.<\/p>\n
Even though the era of pirate radio stations and Indymedia seems to be over in most countries, a number of new initiatives continue to flourish in our days. The \u201eMutu\u201c-networks, blogs and independent fanzines are still spreading. But the old questions about mainstream media and new questions about the use and importance of social media remain or become more relevant. Between a (fortunately) distrustful attitude towards \u2018otherpress\u2019, the risks involved in images, sound and even public discourse, and the emancipatory appropriation of often misunderstood tools, many debates and exchanges are necessary. It is within the framework of an Independent and Insursional Media Centre (CM2i) that we call on you to come together to think, debate and create. Let’s build autonomous media for \u201einfinite September\u201c and beyond.<\/p>\n
Or, as we used to say in the days of the CMI\/IMC: Don’t hate the media, become the media!<\/p>\n
