Demonstration for the future

  • Date:

September, 20 :
Everyone to Bure,
to demonstrate for the future

In Bure it’s not tomorrow that matters, it’s today.

The day after tomorrow, the monster Cigeo will start moving, and it will be hard to stop it as it engulfs forests and fields and digs deep into the ground to hoard its poisonous brood – the yield of decades of the nuclear industry that didn’t know what to do with its most toxic and deadly radioactive waste.

Tomorrow is the day when it plans to lay its roads, rails and power lines in the landscape of the Meuse region, turning the Bois Lejuc into a pile of earth in the middle of which will rise the vents that are supposed to spit out the fumes of the radioactive depths. Tomorrow it will turn a large piece of farmland into a warehouse of concrete, scrap and machinery, where the poison shipments will be kept before they are sent underground.

But right now – today! – there is a threat of expropriation of the land and the areas above it, and the noose is constantly tightening around the residents who are defending themselves. This is particularly true of the former railway station of Luméville-en-Ornois, which is on the route of the future transport route for the radiating railway carriages.

In contrast to the desert that the monster Cigeo is building around itself, the resistance has understood how to create a variety of other ideas about the future locally, to design desirable futures for the residents who demonstrated there, settled in the surrounding villages and where the places and projects of collective life increased, and for the coming generations of resistance fighters.

At the intersection of all these places and challenges, battle is inextricably linked to “La Gare” ; his rich and diverse fighting history is deeply rooted in him. To list all the strong, deeply beautiful and terribly sad moments that have permeated every tiny corner there would not yet do justice to all that several generations of the struggle against Cigeo and, moreover, against nuclear power owe to this place. To drive him away is to drive away our memories; to defend him is to come to defend them!

Whether it is the remains of the Neolithic period already enclosed in the concrete foundations of the present laboratory, or the remains that thousands of future generations would leave to this area if given the opportunity, or the dispossession of the heritage of present life – it is at the same time the past, the present and the future that dispossesses the ravenous monster Cigeo and seizes it for an eternity.

In a world that is rearming 80 years after the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and making the terrible threat of nuclear weapons, in a world that wants to make nuclear power plants blossom in the midst of a chaos of warlike and predatory unpredictability, in this world it is a very difficult legacy, what will be left to humanity for eternity.

That is why we call on everyone to demonstrate together in Bure on 20 September : all those who are coming tomorrow, who were there yesterday and who can do it today – against Cigeo, against nuclear power, for a different future!

Let’s leave it to ANDRA to imagine a future for nuclear power, let’s let them project a sad tomorrow that will be undesirable for future generations! On the other hand, let us invoke our imagination and creativity for an anti-nuclear demonstration for the future!
