The spring of Meuse has been blossomed with militant construction sites, and it’s not over yet ! The repair of the roof of the barn at l’Affranchi·e in Mandres-en-Barrois is underway, a stone’s throw from ANDRA’s nuclear waste landfill laboratory. A few meters below (the roof), an incredible wall was erected to support a large beam of the building. At the same time, many small projects took place in the Maison de Résistance of Bure. An anthill of about fifty people activated despite the loss of the station last month! That’s enough to strengthen the obstacles in the way of CIGÉO. We’ve made a selection of photos for you.
Coating the new room :
The “surchauff’”, born from a construction site at the end of 2024 and isolated in clay-sand-straw in September 2025, was almost finished. A finishing suit was installed after retouching the insulation. A large mural inspired by the most beautiful local species was painted on the wall.
A window worthy of the name was also installed in this room.
Insulated rooms :
The house’s boiler room will smoke less, now insulated from overheating to prevent stomach upheaval.
A window was placed in a room, giving a very beautiful view of the garden. Above it, a room under the roof that served as storage was isolated to make it a real bedroom with a view of the barn for those who are not afraid of heights.
The garden house, which was used to store gardening tools and sawdust, has been isolated to make a new room, connected to electricity. A space for the moved equipment was provided next to it (a real garden hut).
Electrical supplies in the kitchen
A year ago, a large construction site had redeveloped and re-equipped the kitchen of the Maison de Résistance. All that was left was to install new lights above the worktops. It’s done!
Rainwater drainage connections and parking lot development project
A wild tank used to roam around the house ; it was reinstalled in a more suitable way, with a cleaner connection to the rainwater collection tanks installed 20 years ago around the house.
Around this location, the idea would be to excavate and create a space to park more vehicles during events.
In recent months, the barn of l’Affranchi·e in Mandres-en-Barrois (4 km from Bure) has undergone a delicate renovation.
Mezzanines to store agricultural and event equipment have been manufactured.
The cover (also called the roof), of which a third had been redone last year, continues its way, with thousands of tiles moved for the occasion. The construction site makes this large room bright by opening the roof and allows to appreciate it in a new light. As we write these lines, this project is coming to an end. Another can take place next year on one last side of you, in the hope that it will be among the last necessary works on the head of this huge barn.
In early May, an ultra-Rhenish guild group, Axt und Kelle*, came to design and build a wall in the middle of the barn. Its function is to support an important beam that has been reinforced several times in the history of this barn. The wall now erected promises to finish with this beam… and this roof ! Danke schön, Axt und Kelle !
And thank you also to all the people who participated in these projects. From cooks who prepared up to 80 dishes, to drivers and convenience stores, to those who had never touched a tool when they came with their tools, and those who were experts armed with patience to pass on their know-how, not to mention the dogs, Felines and other humanoid animals that make the heat by their presence!

*Axt und Kelle = axe and trowel
The imminent end of this construction session does not mark the end of our rage against the atomic dustbin of Bure. This struggle and these increasingly welcoming houses remain open to all those willing and unwilling who wish to bring their grain of sand into the nuclear machine.
In the very short term, the next step is the framework/roofing site-school from June 1st to 14th at the Maison de Résistance. Given the enthusiasm generated by this school project, it is essential to send an email to find out if there are still places available. If you want to come in any case, other small finishing projects at the Maison de Résistance can also take place.
And more generally, if you are interested in construction sites, or if you feel like starting a site project, don’t hesitate to send an email to : burezonelibre[at]riseup.net
