There is enough space in the collective places in the area for everyone : both those just passing through and those considering settling there in the medium to long term.
The coming years will be particularly significant for the struggle, as work on the CIGEO nuclear waste disposal project is set to begin. Until now, nothing directly linked to the CIGEO project has been built : ANDRA – the National Agency in Charge of the CIGEO project – has mainly submitted administrative applications, acquired land (sometimes by force), and carried out preliminary work.
The struggle is therefore only just beginning, as more than 150 years of construction work are planned for the CIGEO project ! There are plenty of ways to fight locally : by raising awareness, organising events, attending meetings, building relationships with our neighbours, highlighting local opposition, working on technical and thematic issues, and so on.
On the ground, we are obviously not just fighting against nuclear power but also against all forms of domination, as demonstrated by the diversity of events organised in the area in recent years.
Over the past thirty years or so, the struggle has also branched out with the acquisition of collective houses : the “Maison de Résistance” (Resistance House) in 2004, the “Augustine” in 2017 and the “Affranchie” in 2018. These collective houses enable activists to live on site and develop a wide range of self-sufficient practices.
These activities are open to everyone : there’s always a need for help in the fields, at the bakery, in the bar-restaurant, with repairs to collective bikes or cars, or on the various collective projects to maintain and improve the houses. To get involved in these initiatives, regular meetings are held on site, and we’ll be happy to explain everything to you once you’re here.
For those who do not wish to live in collective accommodation, there are also activist flat-shares available !
How easy it is to fit in at a collective place depends on how used to visiting such places you are. If you’re feeling apprehensive or worried that you might not feel at ease, it can sometimes be easier to come with others or to arrive at times when a welcome is specifically organised (such as during work camps, pre-event preparation sessions, etc.).
You can also let us know you’re coming to the “House of resistance to the nuclear waste dump” by emailing burezonelibre [at] riseup [dot] net.
If you’re thinking of staying in the area for a bit longer, please feel free to mention this when you’re here, and we’ll be able to guide you based on your interests.
