News and proposals to persist in writing to Alfredo !

To break the isolation suffered by the anarchist Alfredo Cospito* with the
almost total blockage of his correspondence, we relaunch here the call to send him postcards and letters… in this period of
holidays, etc. He could receive direct correspondence from
several pleasant places!

First of all, this umpteenth call to write to our companion is motivated by
the latest news reaching us from Bancali [jail to
Sassari where he is in a cage, in Sardinia]. Indeed Alfredo
considers himself extremely relevant to continue and
increase the sending of correspondence, even without traceability, even just
postcards with or without a name… If they arrived en masse, they
would require quite a bit of work from the one responsible for blocking his mail.

Then, it turns out that the traceability of the correspondence which is
destiny is no longer as necessary as it has been so far. In
effect, Alfredo has accumulated more than 30 certified correspondence detentions,
on which the “Surveillance Magistrate” [in France it would be the
Defender of rights or the General Controller of places of
privation of liberty] still has to decide. But it takes a lot of time (which would be normal for Bancali, according to the lawyer who is attending to
many inmates of this institution).

Finally, on the sidelines of the topic ‘correspondence’, on September 14,
there will be a hearing regarding the ‘judgment of conformity’ against
the prison of Bancali. It is a procedure in which the
“Surveillance Magistrate” assesses if the prison is able to do
respect or not an authorization granted, which is not actually
made possible. There, it concerns Alfredo’s access to the library:
it was granted to him, but he could not benefit from it. If the magistrate
agrees with Alfredo, the judge will designate another person than the
prison staff to ensure that this authorization is
respected.

We also endorse this proposal: “Initiative in solidarity with
Alfredo against the blocking of mail” launched by the comrades of S’Idea
Sassari’s Libera, to give further development to the attempt
to hinder one of the isolation devices applied to Alfredo. After
this ‘summer phase’ of sending postcards and anonymous letters, it’s one more opportunity to support in the long term the
efforts made to show his captors that Alfredo will never be
alone!

 

INITIATIVE IN SOLIDARITY WITH ALFREDO AGAINST MAIL BLOCKAGE

Regarding the situation of censorship, blockage and isolation
from Alfredo in the 41bis regime to Bancali, we would like to share this
proposal of initiative.

Over time, there have been several occasions where, in a
individual or collective way, we sought to break the isolation by
correspondence. At the moment, as it seems important to us to
continue to strike while the iron is hot, we thought of an
initiative which aims to support Alfredo by using the
correspondence, and to give him a bit of continuity to have a
certain impact or try to have it.

The proposal is as follows: each reality, collective or
individual, who wishes to participate in the initiative, undertakes to send
at least 7 postcards to Alfredo in a given week. This way, the more participations there will be, the more we will achieve
guarantee a ‘coverage’ over time with a certain continuity.

We propose this mode of organization :

1. the realities, individual or collective, can send their
availability at the evaliber2@inventati.org email before September 1st.
2. depending on availability, we will publish a calendar: at
each reality will be given a reference week to send the
postcards / letters to Alfredo.

Break the isolation !

* Alfredo Cospito is an anarchist comrade in prison since 2012.
Initially arrested and convicted for injuring the leader of Ansaldo
Nucleare, he is now serving a sentence of 23 years in prison issued in
the framework of the trial ‘Scripta Manent’ where several anarchists where accused (and some of them also condemned). After his
assignment to the prison regime of 41bis in spring 2022, Alfredo has
started a 6-month hunger strike against the 41bis and the confinement to
perpetuity. His initiative and also the energetic international mobilization who accompanied him brought to the attention of the public the aberration of this prison regime and the death sentence
in prison which the life sentence represents.

Alfredo is still locked up in the 41bis regime of Bancali (at
Sassari), and the renewal or non-renewal of his assignment to this scheme
will take place next spring. The final objective of the 41bis is clear:
physically and psychologically annihilate the individuals who fail in it.
In the case of Alfredo, it is obvious that there is a progressive limitation of the survivability possibilities established for this regime of
detention : blocking of correspondence to/from the outside,
inability to access the internal library (authorization
that Alfredo had received from the management), blocking of the books
regularly bought in bookstores through the prison
(as provided for in the 41bis regime) and other everyday goods,
like flour or clothes.
